Bots are slightly better, but still pretty bad.

They acknowledge the existence of the start of game bounty runes now, but they still do stupid stuff all the time. Even for the bounty rune they just all stand on top of their side's offlane rune waiting for it to spawn. I've been teaching someone DotA and they've been playing exclusively bots (their choice). One game their team had the enemy throne <50% hp with most of the enemy team dead and all 4 bots teleported away to defend a full hp Tier 3 tower from a single creep wave. So they still have really simple logic for determining strategic objectives and potential trades.

Even just the item builds/balance is bad, the bots play Bounty Hunter a fair bit, but play him as a right clicking core and most of the time the hero is dead weight on your team because at most he gets one track off in a fight before dieing (since the bot plays standard and doesn't try to track people before fights either). On the opposite side there's the Chaos Knight bot which almost always dominates the game because the enemy AIs don't respect his initiation & burst.

Also bots always know which illusion is real. So trying to show someone why Phantom Lancer is cool vs the bots is pretty pointless. They'll cast spells like finger of death or single target spells on the real PL every time.

Bots defend high ground poorly (as in their AI gets really buggy). They sometimes will run past the T3/rax on one lane even if that means running by enemies without attacking them. After that their behavior is equally as bizarre and they may move across the low ground to defend another lane; typically that move means they run into the enemy team alone and die.

Bots will often push the same lane constantly and will do things like try for T3s/T4s over pushing another lane even when those other lanes have T1s or T2s up.
